2024 is Year of the 🍄

🍄 Welcome to the first Mycopreneur Newsletter of 2024.

2023 was a career year for us and we’re working diligently to build upon that momentum into this new calendar cycle of growth and decomposition that sits before us.

Among many notable moments and highlights from the prior year are multiple keynote speaking appearances at major psychedelic and mushroom industry conferences in Amsterdam, India, Denver, and England as well as published journalism in High Times and prominent features in Forbes and Rolling Stone among many other outlets. Below is the first article that I published for High Times September 2023, a watershed moment for me personally and for Mycopreneur.

Things got off to a hot start in 2024 with Mycopreneur being the subject of a Rolling Stone article this week, marking the fourth time in the last year that we’ve appeared in the annals of this legendary pop culture juggernaut. The article dives into the hot button issue of psychedelic censorship on social media using the recent deplatforming of our @mycopreneurpodcast Instagram account in November of 2023 with zero content strikes or warning. Read the full article below.

We also released our annual list of “24 Mushroom Companies to Pay Attention to in 2024” which yielded a lot of traction and a small amount of distaste from select companies who were omitted from the list:

We’re gearing up for the Entheogen Expo in San Diego on February 17. This event is absolutely stacked with mycopreneurs and citizen mycologists and will mark the first event of this type that I will have ever attended in my hometown of San Diego.

Three Mycopreneur podcasts went out last week - although none of the three focused on mushroom entrepreneurs per se, they did spotlight small business owners operating in the ‘legal entheogen’ space. Specifically, we spotlighted two boutique Kanna extract purveyors and one Kratom and Kanna botanical seltzer company. The opportunity for cross-pollination and collaboration between boutique businesses in the adjacent ‘wellness’ and ‘Cali sober’ plant medicine spaces is absolutely something that Mycopreneur has historically leaned into and will continue to support.

In other interesting news, the Co-President and Chief Programming Officer at SXSW made a LinkedIn post highlighting our forthcoming panel on March 8th in Austin as one of the ‘5 Most Intriguing Panels’ slated for the massive arts and tech event that’s increasingly favoring psychedelic programming - see the panel info below.

Finally check out the functional mushroom product offerings from our friends at Mycroboost, leaders in the emergent field of mushroom coffee and vendors of top-shelf mushroom extracts.

No Mycopreneur update would be complete without a dose of biting satire, so rounding out this newsletter is a selection of headlines from a parallel universe that oftentimes seems more truthful than our own:
