25 Mushroom Companies to Watch in 2025 Part 5

21. Open Fung

Open Fung is an artist and scientist led organization that fosters deep engagement with fungi through applied research and the arts. Their research is in collaboration with Stanford University's Department of Bioengineering and seeks to encourage curiosity, innovation, and rigorous open source science around mushrooms. I hosted Open Fung co-founder Phil Ross on the Mycopreneur Podcast a few months ago and you can learn more about what they're up to by visiting their website or listening in to the interview we did.

22. Oakland Hyphae

Oakland Hyphae should need no introduction at this point given their pioneering work in analytical mushroom potency testing and the sold out events from coast to coast domestically as well as internationally over the last 5 years, but in particular I want to draw attention to Hyphae Leaks, their independent journalism arm. Hyphae Leaks has been putting out unparalleled journalism covering the mushroom underground as well as drug policy and social justice activism more broadly, and it's essential reading for anyone following the mushroom space.

23. KÄÄPÄ Biotech

Kaapa is a mushroom company based in Finland that is positioned at the vanguard of the functional mushroom industry globally - they provide the mushroom ingredients for some of the biggest brands on the planet, and have a portfolio of companies internationally that they grow mushrooms and provide mushroom extracts for.

24. Mycoday

Mycoday mushroom chocolate is the adaptogenic mushroom chocolate bar that I launched this week after several years of research & development. We started out making the mushroom chocolate ourselves from bean to bar and perfected our recipe over three years of making thousands of bars for friends and family. The site is live now (mycoday.com) and orders are actively being shipped.

25. Mycolove

Mycolove is a Colorado-based mushroom farm and extraction outfit that has been pushing the envelope for the functional mushroom industry via ultrasonic extraction and rigorous scientific advances in mushroom product formulation. They provide the mushrooms to a number of high profile brands and have an impressive array of irons in the mushroom fire.

This concludes the list of 25 Mushroom Companies to Watch in 2025, though to be frank there are hundreds (if not thousands) of companies to watch. I could have just as easily swapped in different 25 companies and they would be just as valid - such is the momentum of the mycopreneur movement.

This list included companies based in 12 countries on 4 continents and surely showcased some new companies that many people will have never heard of, yet who are making extraordinary impacts regionally and globally.

Thanks for checking out the 25 Mushroom Companies to Watch in 2025, and sub to the newsletter for the forthcoming consolidated list and full breakdown.

3D Printing with Mycelium?!

The future of materials is moving fast - and mycelium innovation has a lot to say about where things are headed on this front. Imagine being able to produce materials 100 km from any human settlement anywhere on the planet rather than shipping and trucking in tropical hard woods and marble from across the planet. Imagine being able to transport spores across the vast expanses of space and growing moon bases and Mars bases - believe it or not, NASA is already investing in this.

Here and now, University of Stuttgart Institute of Building Construction lab is already 3d printing “Mycelium and Pneumatic Architecture”

Thanks to Shane from Heartwood Mushrooms for putting them on my radar - Shana has been doing some awesome work with casting mycelium materials and then 3D printing objects to work synergistically with the mycomaterials - check out his work at @heartwoodmushrooms on IG and come say hi to him at the Incubator today.

From our sponsors: Have you tried mushroom coffee yet? I’m literally drinking it every day and it is remarkable how well it works - I still get the focus and energy I used to overindulge on caffeine and coffee for, but the energy is much cleaner and doesn’t come with a crash or jitters. These days I drink one regular coffee in the morning and then switcch to Mycroboost mushroom coffee. Try it for yourself and send me a photo of you with your Mycroboost! I’ll gladly share it on my socials.
