Howdy Mycopreneurs,
The fungal horizons keep stretching towards infinity as previously unimaginable feats become increasingly normalized thanks to the global mushroom entrepreneur community.
As a current example, living materials designer and previous Mycopreneur Podcast guest Andy Cartier of Studio Cartier is on the homestretch of producing a commercially viable skateboard that is grown from mycelium composite materials.
Somebody get Tony Hawk on the line for this one.

Cartier took to LinkedIn this week to share updates on this breakthrough project:
“The goal is simple: make a 100% bio-based skate with the same properties you’d expect from traditional veneer-based decks.”
This new venture is called “Universal Fungi Organics (U.F.O)” and you can (and should!) follow Andy (@studiocartier) on IG.
This mushroom skateboard isn’t Andy and his team’s first venture into mycomaterial outdoor sports design either - in May of this year, Koz Surfboards debuted the first Mycelium composite surfboard. They are currently available in France, with aspirations to scale into a sustainable option for surfers everywhere. Below is Andy pictures next to one of the mushroom surfboards.

The development of these first of their kind mycelium skateboards and surfboards is the latest in a recent spate of mushroom material based design disrupting the world of outdoor and adventure sports.
A Los Angeles based designer named Sam Shoemaker recently made international headlines when he successfully paddled a kayak that he grew out of wild Ganoderma polychromum mycelium (A type of Reishi mushroom) 26 miles from Catalina Island to the coast of San Pedro, California in August of this year.

He has generously shared the workflow, materials and design elements that led to the creation of this seaworthy mushroom kayak on his website at Samshoemaker.com
