Howdy mushroom family,

Welcome to the Mycopreneur Newsletter. This is a twice weekly roundup of global mushroom news, insights + analysis of current trends, and a spotlight on the international community of mushroom entrepreneurs.

We host weekly online events and various in-person events throughout the year, and this newsletter is where the invites to everything live. Please subscribe to stay informed about what’s happening in the global mushroom community and forward to your friends and colleagues if you feel so inclined.

Tomorrow we’re hosting a “Mushroom Edible Market Deep Dive” with Chris Pauli of Tryptomics, one of the nation’s leading analytical testing labs for mushrooms and other Elevated Natural Products.

We will also hear from several other established stakeholders in the mushroom edible space. We will cover both psychoactive and functional mushroom edibles, addressing current hot topics such as the ‘Syndelic’ phenomenon whereby many products purporting to be ‘Magic Mushroom Edibles’ actually contain zero psilocybin or psilocin and instead have undisclosed research chemicals like 4-AcO-DMT or 4-HO-MET, or perhaps Muscimol extract (The active alkaloid in Amanita muscaria mushrooms 🍄) as their active ingredient.

A recent study out of Oregon State University found that 12 out of 12 products labeled as ‘Magic Mushroom’ edibles contained zero trace of psilocybin and 7 of the 12 contained at least one undisclosed ingredient including cannabis extracts and synthetic psychedelics.

Beyond the question of active ingredients in these products, there’s also a number of other considerations we will cover such as potency range, accurate bioactive measurement standards (Psilocin Equivalent vs. Psilocybin Content), the challenges of testing a gummy matrix, and functional mushroom testing.

We will have data from over 100 unique ‘mushroom’ products that have been tested by the Tryptomics team.

This event will be structured as a deep dive on testing data and considerations around the ‘wild west mushroom edible market’ for the first 45 minutes or so primarily featuring one of the nation’s leading mushroom analytical testing experts, with an open forum discussion in which attendees are encouraged to participate during the last 30 to 45 minutes. We will aim for a 90 minute session.

Our event last week in collaboration with Open Fung and Fungaria titled “Safeguarding Fungi: Conservation, Ethics, Genetics, and Sustainable Use in a Global Context” was the first in a series of deep dives platforming subject area experts in the mushroom entrepreneurial community sharing insights and open intel live for our community.

This concept is an extension of our weekly Mycopreneur Incubator which we’ve been hosting consistently for the last 15 months. It’s an opportunity to connect with a ‘brain trust’ of other mushroom entrepreneurs and researchers around the world in real time and build rapport while exploring vital topics relevant to the mushroom space at large.

This event is brought to you by Mycoday functional mushroom chocolate, winner of the Hearst’s GreenState Consumers’ Choice Awards for Best Functional Mushroom Product of 2025.

The Mycopreneur Incubator has served as a free resource for the global mushroom entrepreneurial community consistently for over a year and compliments the weekly Mycopreneur Podcast and Mycopreneur Newsletters as a hub for connecting, incubating and accelerating mushroom entrepreneurs and mushroom startups. The Mycopreneur platform has been featured in Rolling Stone, Forbes, Wired, Vice, Los Angeles Times, High Times, The Independent, and many other international publications and has been showcased at SXSW, Harvard Law School, and international conferences such as Breaking Convention UK, Psychedelic Science, and Biohacker Summit Amsterdam among many others.

The Mycopreneur Incubator and platform at large have remained 100% free, independent, and consistent with daily output since our debut in 2020 and is 100% bootstrapped and funded by collaborations with brands and community benefactors.
