Rules For Thee, Not For Me

+ Mycopreneur Incubator Invite

Colorado has been a hotbed of mushroom entrepreneurism over the last two years since Proposition 122 was passed with a 54% to 46% vote. The passing of ‘Prop 122’ permitted personal possession, growing, sharing, and use - but not sale - of Psilocybin, Psilocin, DMT, Ibogaine and Mescaline.

The mushroom community in Colorado built around this ‘Grow, Gather, Gift’ model has yielded some incredible results and world-class data. The below graph is an example of community self-regulation through the development of testing standards and data sharing (see https://www.tryptomics.com/ for more on this)

Prop 122 also dictates that “by late 2024, allow the supervised use of psychedelic mushrooms by individuals aged 21 and over at licensed facilities and require the state to create a regulatory structure for the operation of these licensed facilities;”

The time has come for the regulatory structure referenced above to be enacted - and it seems that mushroom home cultivation provision and the cottage industry of services supported by it are on the chopping block. The proposed changes that may be pushed through into law would effectively severely limit who can produce and provide mushrooms (and other natural psychedelics) to - surprise, surprise - costly and resource-intensive centers with steep licensing fees, insurance requirements, and general inflated overhead that makes it all but impossible for anyone without deep pockets and political connections to legally provide ‘psilocybin services’ -

In other words, Colorado residents may have voted for a bait-and-switch Natural Health act which axes the most appealing portion of the proposition as it pertains to the average person.

Let’s talk about it at this week’s Mycopreneur Incubator - invite at the bottom of this email.

For those newer to this email list and not familiar with the Incubator, it’s simply a free online incubator for mushroom entrepreneurs or anyone working with mushrooms to connect with each other and level up together.

What’s an ‘Incubator’ tho?

To quote a definition from the British Investment Bank, “Business incubators provide start-ups and early-stage businesses with the support and resources those young companies find difficult to access. Their support might involve access to networks, investors and mentors, or co-working space alongside other businesses and experienced professionals.”

In the few months since we’ve been hosting these weekly sessions, we’ve had attendees who have founded 9-figure mushroom companies, been on Shark Tank, co-developed the world’s first psilocybin mushroom potency testing lab, journalists for mainstream publications, therapists, cultivators, and other people working with mushrooms from a total of over 30 countries.

So let’s keep it rolling. Also, check out this awesome ‘Mushroom Color Atlas’ interactive website that has a wealth of info about the different natural colors and dyes that can be made out of various mushroom species. That’s what this newsletter and the incubator are about at their core - sharing mushroom intel and resources
