San Diego Sojourn: Entheogen Expo

A bit of what is in today’s edition:

🍄 Tremella Tuesday!

🍄 Entheogen Expo Highlights and Connections

Happy Tremella Tuesday Everyone!

This curious fungi is what I affectionately refer to as the 'Loofah' of the mushroom world; spongy, buoyant, and imbued with unique and powerful hydration properties which are purported to be beneficial to cardiovascular function and skin health.

Tremella is sometimes colloquially known as "Witch's Butter", and is categorized as Jelly fungus due to its jelly-like consistency and general wiggliness. I've found this mushroom in the wild in the Hudson Valley of New York state and in the pine forests of Chiapas, Mexico.

It's very popular across Asia where it's used in various skin creams and sweet desserts. Our friends at Real Mushrooms - who have been working with mushroom suppliers throughout Asia for decades - are one of the few brands in North America that readily offer this underrepresented functional mushroom powerhouse.

Entheogen Expo: A Celebration of Myco Culture in San Diego

I've been in San Diego, California for the last 10 days visiting family and participating in Entheogen Expo.

This one-day event brought out heavy hitters from across the international myco sphere - I was extremely impressed at the level of organization, execution, and turnout. Five Stars all the way around.

Entheogen Expo was honestly much better organized and on point than one of the last major 'corporadelic' conferences I went to. This is a testament to the power of community-driven events and the staying power of boutique businesses motivated by quality craftsmanship and value created more so than recently established operations attempting to cash in on the 'Blue Rush' as my friend Mycogeeky refers to it.

Huge, huge shoutout to Agarboi for putting this extraordinary gathering together from top to bottom.

World-renowned experts like Alan Rockefeller and Jordan Jacobs pulled up among many other niche myco celebrities to shed cutting-edge intel on subject matter ranging from outdoor mushroom cultivation to extraction methods to product development and so much more.

Myco Punks traveled all the way from England to attend this one day event, and numerous other mushroom industry professionals traveled from the East Coast, Midwest, and other parts of the U.S. to make this event what it was: A sensational celebration of the worldwide underground entheogen community.

Oklahoma Fungi drove out from - you guessed it - to speak on several panels and generally raise the level of stoke at the event.

I was particularly impressed by the Flow Hoods on offer from Flowhood - they were showcasing their forthcoming release of the world's only laminar flow hood built with hemp composite materials.

Culture Shrooms showed up in full effect. They run one of the only mushroom-focused storefronts in the United States and pulled up with various mushroom-infused coffees and capsule blends to the delight of everyone present.

Twisted Tree Nursery dazzled with their famous DinoSoil and AlpacaSoil substrates among other standout offerings, while their beloved superstar tortoise greeted guests from a custom enclosure as they arrived at the outside pavilion area.

Another standout offering was the Dragon's Blood handcrafted Chaga mushroom exfoliant soap courtesy of Humboldt Mycology.

Washington Shrooms and Los Malos Eloteros came through to add even more magic to the day, as their participation sent an already stacked lineup over the top.

And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Mycozine - the absolute game changing print zine produced by none other than Tomas Garrett - because no community is complete without a zine.

Agar Addicts came through correct as usual - great to connect with you!

Van from Mycotrophic moved attendees with his powerful testimony of how learning to cultivate and connect with mushrooms has empowered him to take control of his own healing journey and mental health.

There were many, many more important contributors to this event - all equally important, but I'm writing this newsletter in the airport lounge between flights so I failed to mention anyone, hit me up and we'll get you a feature in the near future.

And at one of the unaffiliated afterparties in downtown San Diego, I even spotted a number of Entheo* branded DMT vapes floating around.

Woosah was on hand bringing a taste of their legendary Bay Area chocolate to San Diego!

It was a real pleasure to spend time IRL with Sikstar Art and Fungstrate - two absolute gems - and to get some more face time with Drew from the legendary Inoculate The World mushroom supply brand. It was awesome to hear Drew tell the stories of spore hunting around the world, sourcing wild mushroom genetics to introduce to myco community.

Thank you for reading the Mycopreneur Newsletter!

I'll have a more in-depth review of this event forthcoming shortly - but in the meantime, just know that it was one for the books.

Please let us know what you think of this newsletter - and send it to your friends and family who might have a mushroom brand or a fascination with the mighty fungi kingdom.

See you all back here on Friday!
