Where to Find Mushrooms
+ Mycopreneur Incubator Invite
Howdy Mycopreneurs,
Welcome to the Mycopreneur Newsletter - a weekly dose of cutting edge global mushroom entrepreneurship intel that also features an invitation to our weekly Mycopreneur Incubator. The Incubator is a business accelerator and networking forum for mushroom entrepreneurs, researchers, lawyers, journalists, advocates, and newcomers interested in leveling up in the mushroom space. These days, every Incubator feels like the best one weâve ever had - some might call that the law of compounding returns.
Check out this post from Mycostories about a substantial funding opportunity for Early-Stage Mycopreneurs building at the intersection of fungal biotech and deep tech. Hardly a week goes by without someone building something impactful in the mushroom space who is knocking on doors looking for funding, so if this sounds like a fit for you, get in touch with Marc.

Where To Find Mushrooms
Speaking of Fungal tech, check out this awesome new app offering from Nick Covery of Magic Mushroom Map in the UK. Nick has joined us at the Incubator before and shared insights from his journey developing this super unique and impactful tool which factors in real time weather and environmental data to help people find Liberty Cap mushrooms - as well as other species - more reliably and expeditiously.

MonĂ Fest Gets a Venue
The MonĂ mushroom (Lactifluus chiapanensis) is the star of the show at the third annual MonĂ Fest coming up September 12th-14th in Tuxtla Gutierrex, Chiapas, Mexico. Mycopreneur is involved in the production of this event, which includes a documentary film focusing on this mushroom that is vitally important to both the regional ecosystem and the local cultures in the Zoque region of Chiapas, Mexico. Weâve launched a Kickstarter to help cover costs for the film and the festival, and have already raisded 20% of our goal within the first week since we launched it. Have a look at the campaign below:
âAmanita Second OpinionâŠâ
Speaking of wild mushroomsâŠhave you tapped in with Minnesota Nice Ethnobotanicals to check out their Amanita muscaria and Amanita pantherina mushrooms yet? I was a former skeptic of Amanitas, like many, but since connecting with the team at MN Nice Iâve learned a lot more about them and discovered how to build a safe and beneficial relationship with this enigmatic fungus đ.
One of the lingering skeptics of the benefits of Amanita muscaria consumption is none other than famed mycologist Paul Stamets, global ambassador of the fungi kingdom.
On the Joe Rogan podcast in 2020, Rogan prompted Stamets with the the statement âAmanita seems to have a lot of controversy around its efficacy â as far as its psychedelic efficacyâŠI donât know anybody thatâs ever really tripped off of itâ
âMuscaria? Oh man do I have a storyâ Paul responds before launching into a story about a time he took Amanita pantherina, a similar species to Amanita muscaria that holds approximately 5 times greater concentration of Muscimol and ibotenic acid than Amanita muscaria.
Paul shares the story of the time he took a large, unmeasured dose of Amanita pantherina and experienced a 12 hour trip marked by ârepetitive motion syndromeâ, visual and time distortions, and generally unpleasant accompanying bodily sensations and paranoia while emphasizing the profound altered state that psychoactive Amanitas can confer.
At the end of his story, Rogan asks Stamets âSo you recommend it?â
âNoâ says Paul.
âItâs a mushroom thatâs perfectly legal and is one of the most dangerous mushrooms that anyone could eatâ he finishes.
While Paul has had an outsized positive influence on how the public perceives mushrooms for many reasons, this is one instance in which he has perpetuated a misinformed and misguided narrative on the global stage.
âTaking a large dose of Amanita the first time with no experience is like downing a bottle of Vodka the first time you drink â of course youâre going to have an awful experience with that,â says Rasmussen.
âOne of the things that people donât understand about Amanita muscaria is that proper preparation mitigates the risk of nausea and any other unpleasant side effects that are commonly associated with the mushroomâ says Christian Rasmussen of Minnesota Nice Ethnobotanicals, the largest importer and vendor of Amanita muscaria mushrooms in the United States.
âWhen one boils the mushrooms in lemon water for 20-30 minutes, ibotenic acid decarboxylates into muscimol, changing the chemical composition of the mushrooms as well as the experience. Pretty much everyone enjoys the Amanita experience after the mushroom is properly decarbedâ.
As more people learn how to safely engage with this ancient psychoactive mushroom, cultural attitudes in the U.S. and beyond are starting to shift to a more balanced perspective.
